CHICAGO — After more than five hours of deliberation on Thursday, a jury has found Tim Mapes, 68, guilty of perjury and attempted obstruction of justice.Mapes, former chief of staff to former House Speaker Michael Madigan, is accused of perjury and attempted obstruction of justice. Prosecutors allege Mapes tried to block a criminal investigation of Madigan and Springfield insider Michael McClain. Williams was released from Sheridan Correctional Center on Sept. 6, 2022 after a Lake County judge threw out his conviction tied to the murder of his ex-wife, Penny Williams. CHICAGO — The City of Chicago has filed a lawsuit against Kia and Hyundai over a rise in car thefts since last year.The complaint was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County and alleges the auto corporations failed to equip their cars sold in the U.S., between 2011 and 2022, with anti-theft technology.It alleges that Kia and Hyundai "deceptively assured" consumers that these vehicles possessed “advanced” safety features, despite knowing about the defect and its consequences.The defect was made popular on TikTok — which shows how people can start some Kia and Hyundai models by using only a screwdriver and a USB cable.According to Chicago officials, thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles in the city surged from about 500 in the first half of 2022 to more than 8,350 during the second half of the year. HOUSTON (KIAH) — A murder investigation is underway after the discovery of a body wrapped in plastic and duct tape in Texas on Sunday.Investigators have a husband and wife in custody. They say the pair admitted to their involvement in the killing after the wife admitted to having an affair with the victim.Narciso Banos, 49, has been charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping and tampering with a human corpse when he faced a judge Sunday. A man charged Thursday with setting off a pipe bomb in St. Paul in June that damaged two vehicles told police it was intended for the vehicle of a man he was “livid” with because he “desecrated” his father’s ashes by pouring them onto the ground, according to a criminal complaint.Officers responded to a possible pipe bomb explosion at 1:12 p.m. June 13 on York Avenue between Kennard and Hazelwood streets on the Greater East Side.A Ford Ranger was parked on the north side of York and a Chevrolet Suburban on the south side.
