Sir Ben Ainslie and Emirates Great Britain earned their second straight SailGP regatta win on Sunday and the United States finished third a day after flight controller Hans Henken was knocked unconscious and hospitalized after the squad’s 50-foot catamaran crashed hard off its foils in strong wind in Taranto, Italy.Ainslie prevailed over three-time defending SailGP champion Tom Slingsby of Team Australia and Jimmy Spithill of Team USA. The Americans subbed in Taylor Canfield for Henken, who was expected to spend a second night in the hospital. The wind dropped off during the podium race and the 16-minute time limit expired, so race management awarded final positions based on the standings after five fleet races, which Ainslie dominated with finishes of 2-2-3-1-2, with the Aussies second and Spithill third.“Clearly we were racing with a lot of purpose today,” said Spithill, who visited Henken in the hospital on Saturday night. “Without a doubt, this was the toughest event we’ve ...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The anguish was evident all over coach Marcus Freeman’s face Saturday night.Notre Dame needed one stop to beat then-No. 6 Ohio State for the first time since 1936, and yet it couldn’t finish the job.Instead, a series of miscues over the final, frantic minutes allowed the Buckeyes to keep their perfect season and playoff hopes intact with an improbable 17-14 victory that will force the Fighting Irish to search for answers this week.“As I just told the team, it’s disappointing,” Freeman said before seeing his team fall two spots to No. 11 in the new Associated Press Top 25. “We had a lot of opportunities to win that game and then we didn’t. Credit to them for continuing to battle back and be resilient when we went up. We’ve got to finish that game.”Chalk it up as yet another learning experience for the second-year Irish coach and his players.A year ago, Freeman lost his first two games, at Ohio State, his alma mater, followed by an inexplicabl...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham weren’t enough to save “Expend4bles” from a debut box office flop. The fourth installment suffered the action-packed franchise’s worst opening weekend while “The Nun II” took home the top spot for a third straight week, data firm Comscore reported on Sunday. The Lionsgate and Millennium’s film, also known as “Expendables 4,” pulled in a mediocre $8.3 million for the big-budget project. It starred several popular names, including Stallone, Statham, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox and Dolph Lundgren. It’s been nearly a decade since the franchise released a film, which opened with $15.8 million and eventually grossed $214 million globally. But times have certainly changed, as the film barely placed second behind “The Nun 2,” a horror movie that earned $8.4 million in its first week. It’s been a solid start for that Warner Bros.’ project — a spinoff from the lucrative “Conjuring” fr...
